Employability Skills This unit contains employability skills.
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency is applicable to logistic personnel who have a responsibility to organise and manage the delivery of maintenance support in a field deployment context. The skills will usually be applied in a front-line maintenance facility supporting the maintenance, repair and recovery of equipment to support the organisations operations. This person will usually be from an engineering background or a technician, and will bring management skills and leadership to perform the scope of this unit of competency. Maintenance teams may be comprised of a range of maintenance elements from different disciplines which when brought together form a comprehensive maintenance support organisation. The composition of the maintenance team will be guided by the type and scale of operation being supported. All activities are carried out in accordance with relevant organisational policy and procedures.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Analyse the maintenance requirement
  • Maintenance tasks are received and analysed for operational maintenance requirements
  • Information is sourced and analysed to identify the maintenance factors to be considered in supporting operations
  • Logistic information management systems are utilised in the scheduling and coordination of maintenance
  • The maintenance of workshop equipment is scheduled within the constraints of delivering maintenance support
  • The considerations of production/maintenance planning are applied to derive the most efficient employment of maintenance equipment and personnel
  • The enabling components of maintenance support are identified and established
  • Instructions are prepared and delivered to implement and coordinate maintenance support
  • Risk analysis is conducted to identify and mitigate against unacceptable risks
  • Technical advice is provided to management and stakeholders

Element: Manage maintenance support
  • Maintenance technical policy and procedure are applied in the conduct of maintenance support
  • Occupational health and safety (OH&S) requirements and recognised safety precautions are applied throughout the operation in accordance with standard procedures
  • Maintenance personnel are supervised and efficiently and effectively employed within their area of speciality
  • Requests for repair/recovery support are received and an appropriate response is developed to support to the task
  • Maintenance effort is monitored to ensure workload is effectively distributed across the maintenance organisation
  • Operational or organisational constraints are recognised and maintenance tasks are directed to align with these constraints
  • The maintenance activity is monitored to ensure that the maintenance organisations are conducting activity with appropriate authority and in accordance with organisational policy and procedures
  • Liaison with agencies involved in the operation, maintenance and supply chain is carried out to ensure the most effective coordination of effort
  • Maintenance support priorities are set in order to align the maintenance support activities with the organisational objectives
  • Management and stakeholders are advised when significant issues or developments arise that may adversely impact on the technical integrity of material within the organisation
  • Maintenance records are maintained and entered into information systems

Element: Forecast repair parts requirements
  • Repair parts agencies are liaised with to coordinate the provisioning of repair parts to meet forecast maintenance requirements
  • The supply and demand of repair parts is monitored to ensure repair parts and materials are available to support maintenance activities
  • The management of repair parts records are monitored to ensure visibility over repair parts to support maintenance planning

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

The evidence guide provides advice on assessment and must be read in conjunction with the performance criteria, required knowledge and skills, the range statement and the assessment guidelines for this Training Package.

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

The evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria of this unit

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Competency should be demonstrated on at least one occasion covering the scope of the unit of competence

Resources for assessment include:

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or other simulated practical and knowledge assessment, and/or

access to an appropriate range of relevant operational situations in the workplace

In both real and simulated environments, access is required to:

relevant and appropriate materials and equipment, and

applicable documentation including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals

Method of assessment

Assessment of this unit must be undertaken by a registered training organisation

As a minimum, assessment of knowledge must be conducted through appropriate written/oral tests

Practical assessment must occur:

through activities in an appropriately simulated environment, and/or

in an appropriate range of situations in the workplace

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
